Terms of Use
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of HandyInTown, operated by Handwired LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company. By using HandyInTown, you agree to these terms.
Part One — General Terms (all users)
1. What HandyInTown is
HandyInTown is a directory and lead generation platform that connects residents with local home service providers. HandyInTown is not a contractor, employer, or party to any service agreement. We facilitate connections — we are not responsible for the quality, safety, or outcome of any work performed.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use HandyInTown as a resident. You must be at least 16 years old to register as a provider. Providers under 18 are responsible for complying with all applicable Connecticut minor employment laws.
3. Honest use
Ratings must be honest and based on real experiences. Fake reviews, review manipulation, or fraudulent accounts will result in removal from the platform.
4. Seeded listings
HandyInTown's initial directory is seeded from publicly available community sources in good faith. Providers can claim, update, or request removal of their listing at any time via the Contact Us page.
5. Platform authority
HandyInTown may remove listings, suspend accounts, or restrict access to users who violate these terms. We may do so without prior notice in cases of fraud, abuse, or risk to platform integrity.
6. No warranty
HandyInTown makes no warranty about the accuracy of directory listings, provider qualifications, or the outcome of any service engagement. We provide the platform "as is."
7. Governing law
These terms are governed by Connecticut law. Any disputes must first be submitted to mediation before litigation.
8. Privacy
Your use of HandyInTown is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms.
Part Two — Provider Terms
These additional terms apply to anyone who registers as a provider on HandyInTown.
9. Personal accounts
Provider accounts belong to the individual who registers, not to any company. Your ratings, reputation history, credit balance, and job history belong to you personally.
10. Company name
Company name is a display field only. You may change it at any time. Your ratings and history are never affected by a company name change.
11. Non-transferable
Provider accounts are non-transferable. They cannot be sold, assigned, or inherited. If you sell your business, the new owner must register a new account with zero history.
12. Phone verification
Phone number is your primary identity on the platform. Changing your phone number requires re-verification to confirm the same person controls the account.
13. SMS response
You agree to respond to leads delivered to your phone within your chosen response window (24, 48, or 72 hours). Failure to respond to 3 consecutive inquiries triggers automatic suppression review.
14. Credit terms
Credits are consumed when a lead is delivered, not when you accept it. Declining a lead does not refund the credit — the lead was real and delivered as specified. Refunds are issued only for duplicate inquiries within 7 days, resident cancellations within 5 minutes, or fraudulent inquiries identified by our team.
Credits are non-transferable and belong to the registered individual. Credits do not expire during normal operation. If you voluntarily request removal of your listing, any unused credits are forfeited and will not be refunded.
15. License currency
You are responsible for keeping your license and insurance information current. Licenses expired for more than 30 days without update will result in automatic listing suppression.
16. Provider of record
Accepting a lead makes you the provider of record for that job. You are responsible for the quality and outcome of accepted work regardless of who physically performs it. You may use employees or regular subcontractors, provided you maintain direct responsibility for quality and client satisfaction.
17. Lead farming prohibited
Systematically accepting leads with no intention of performing or directly supervising the work is prohibited. HandyInTown may investigate and suspend accounts showing patterns inconsistent with genuine service delivery.
18. Rating system integrity
You agree not to solicit fake reviews, offer incentives for reviews, or manipulate the rating system in any way. Violations result in removal.
19. Compliance
You are solely responsible for maintaining all required licenses, permits, and insurance, and for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
